In our series ‘People of Pauwels Consulting’, new colleagues introduce themselves and talk about their first few months of working at Pauwels Consulting and our clients.
Today, we are going to get acquainted with Niels Ghyselinck. Niels has been working as a Recruitment Consultant at Pauwels Consulting’s office in Ghent for the past 7 months.
Niels, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Niels: Of course. I’m Niels Ghyselinck, I’m twenty-five years old and I live in Oudenaarde, in the heart of the Flemish Ardennes.
In my spare time I like to discover the world with my friends, walk dogs from rescue centres and make music. I also try to exercise and do strength training as often as possible.
What is your professional background?
Niels: I completed my studies as a social worker at the beginning of the year with a bachelor’s degree in Personnel Management.
I took a break halfway through my studies in order to gain work experience. At first, I was able to work as a fitness coach and then I worked as a machine operator in a three shift set-up.
Both experiences enabled me to grow enormously as a person and I continued my studies successfully with a different attitude and outlook.
How did you get in touch with Pauwels Consulting?
Niels: Once I had my diploma I looked for a job. It so happened that I found an interesting vacancy at Pauwels Consulting after searching for just 15 minutes. The layout of the vacancy and the website design both appealed to me. I used to develop websites and brochures myself. I was hooked immediately.
I decided to apply right away and started as a Recruitment Consultant at Pauwels Consulting in Ghent a few weeks later. I couldn’t have wished for a better way of looking for a first job!
What was your first impression of Pauwels Consulting?
Niels: Very positive. Everyone was dedicated to achieving quality, which was something I had already noticed during my interview. The approach was professional, communication was clear and I was given well-considered information whenever I had further questions.
Why did you decide to come and work at Pauwels Consulting?
Niels: I met a number of future colleagues during my interviews, of course. Although the meetings were always professional, there was always scope for an informal chat. I felt that things clicked right away. What the job entailed and my opportunities for the future also attracted me greatly.
In addition to that, Pauwels Consulting is a company that is growing strongly, with motivated and ambitious staff who work hard but don’t forget to let off steam every now and then. I had no doubts whatsoever when I heard that I could start working here.
What does your work consist of at the moment?
Niels: As a Recruitment Consultant I analyse the needs of our clients and the wishes of candidates or the people who are looking for a new job. I try to find an ideal match between them.
This means that I look at CVs every day and call people to find out which job would suit them. I get to know candidates as well as I can before I introduce them to clients.
This interaction makes it very interesting. It gives me great satisfaction when I can have someone start off in a project to which both the candidate and the client are fully committed.
Does your job match your expectations?
Niels: Absolutely! I get to meet new people every day and they tell me their stories and about their experience. The personal contact with potential candidates is very pleasant. The sectors in which we are active (IT, engineering and life sciences) are really interesting and informative.
In addition, I work every day with ambitious colleagues who look out for each other and enjoy each other’s company. We have fun, we always start the weekend off with a drink and I can’t go without a game of table football in the afternoon. That’s expected of me (laughter).
What are your ambitions for the future?
Niels: I want to grow in my job as a Recruitment Consultant. I want to help more people find an attractive project. There are many opportunities for me to continue developing.
My job is very dynamic and that’s also the case for my immediate colleagues at Pauwels Consulting in Ghent. There are certainly enough opportunities for me to develop further in the future and to take on other responsibilities.
Is there anything in particular you’d like to share with our readers?
“A river cuts through a rock, not because of its power but because of its persistence.”
And another quotation I like:
“The best view comes after the hardest climb.”
Amen to that, Niels. Thank you for the interview!
