As part of a strategic transformation initiative, the organization is redesigning its IT/OT data architecture to enable scalable analytics, AI applications, and real-time decision-making across equipment and departments.

The Senior Data Engineer plays a key role in building and operating real-time data pipelines that feed a Unified Namespace, bridging industrial systems and enterprise data platforms.

Responsibilities:
  • Elicit and refine functional requirements with stakeholders for IT/OT data pipelines and platforms.
  • Translate requirements into concrete technical designs in collaboration with senior developers and architects.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable real-time data pipelines publishing data into a Unified Namespace (UNS).
  • Develop custom integration components to expose data from legacy or closed industrial systems.
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize pipeline performance, including latency, throughput, and failure handling.
  • Apply and enforce best practices through code reviews, quality standards, and technical guidance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues across the IT/OT data landscape.

Requirements

  • You hold a Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • You possess a deep understanding of a Unified Namespace (UNS).
  • You have experience with DataOps systems for data extraction and publishing.
  • You are familiar with message broker technology (e.g. Kafka, Active MQ).
  • You have experience with caching systems (Redis) and databases (Postgres, Oracle, MongoDB).
  • You understand automation/equipment protocols (e.g. MODBUS, OPC UA).
  • You are experienced in DevOps practices (e.g. Jenkins, OpenShift) and version control systems (Git).
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or strongly regulated industry is a plus.
  • You are knowledgeable in programming languages such as Python or JavaScript.
  • You are fluent in English and Dutch.

Offer

  • Work regime: Full-time
  • Location: Willebroek
  • Working model: Hybrid (up to 2 days remote)
