Expert Data Architect – Lakehouse & Open Source Data Platforms

Our client, a leading organization in the public health sector, is looking for an expert to support the design and implementation of a multi-user data and analysis platform. This role focuses on bridging organizational architecture with technical execution to build a scalable, secure storage layer based on modern lakehouse principles.

Responsibilities

  • Propose and evaluate technologies for the storage layer, including BLOB storage, relational databases, and NoSQL systems.
  • Implement medallion architecture patterns while managing data archiving, backup, and integration workflows.
  • Ensure technical interoperability between the data lakehouse and components like ingestion layers and data science workbenches.
  • Align platform architecture and data flows with compliance standards such as GDPR, NIS2, and the European Health Data Space.
  • Provide technical leadership to development teams through code reviews, design evaluations, and best practice advocacy.
  • Maintain high-quality technical documentation and collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver integrated solutions.

Requirements

  • You bring 8+ years of expertise in Data Platform Architecture, including data lakes, lakehouse environments, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • You possess deep knowledge of storage technologies such as MinIO, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, and S3-compatible object storage.
  • You have experience with data processing frameworks including Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, and dbt.
  • You have extensive experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • You bring proficiency in infrastructure as code and cloud platforms using Terraform and OpenStack.
  • You possess knowledge of security and identity management tools such as Keycloak and HashiCorp Vault.
  • You have a strong understanding of data governance and protection frameworks including GDPR and NIS2.
  • You're a proactive problem-solver with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • You are fluent in Dutch or French with an excellent knowledge of English.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with sovereign cloud stacks such as OVHcloud, Hetzner, or Scaleway.
  • Familiarity with data science workbenches like Onyxia.
