System Engineer – Azure & Istio

Our client, a leading organization in the telecommunications sector, is seeking an Operational System Engineer to join their architecture and engineering team. The project focuses on managing integration setups and supporting a critical cloud migration through advanced service mesh and middleware solutions.

• Manage development team requests for integration setups on Azure Service Mesh and Middleware messaging solutions.
• Prepare configuration tasks and coordinate with specialized teams for firewall and network adjustments.
• Enhance and automate deployment processes and tooling to optimize the operational environment.
• Support cloud migration efforts by assisting development teams with Service Mesh integration and troubleshooting.
• Provide second-line support for standard Azure middleware setups using monitoring and logging tools.
• Train and mentor the operational team to facilitate a smooth handover of platform management.

• 5+ years of experience in system or operational engineering with a strong background in support tasks.
• Strong expertise in Azure Cloud, specifically AKS, Azure Storage, Event Hub, Event Grid, and KeyVault.
• In-depth knowledge of Istio service mesh deployment, configuration, and management in large-scale IT departments.
• Proficiency in automation and scripting using PowerShell, Bicep, and Bash.
• Extensive experience with GitHub, including GitHub Actions, Workflows, and ArgoCD.
• Solid understanding of containerization technologies such as Docker.
• Experience with middleware and integration technologies including API Management, ESB, and Pub/Sub.
• Proactive with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• You are fluent in English.

Nice to Haves

• Possession of CKA, CKAD, AZ-104, or AZ-303 certifications.
• Experience with Azure Security certifications such as AZ-1002 or AZ-1003.
• Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools like Dynatrace and Splunk.
• Familiarity with Terraform or alternative service mesh technologies like Linkerd or Consul.
• Experience with cloud-native security practices.
