Senior Backend Engineer – Java & Event-based Architecture

Our client, a prominent organization in the media sector, is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join their digital product division. The role involves designing and maintaining scalable, high-performance backend services to support a wide range of digital platforms and applications.

• Design and implement scalable backend components and APIs within an event-based architecture.
• Collaborate with cross-functional agile teams to translate product requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Maintain high standards for code quality, observability, and operational excellence across all services.
• Manage the end-to-end development lifecycle from initial analysis to production monitoring and support.
• Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks to ensure stable deployments.
• Coach team members and drive the adoption of engineering best practices within the development team.

• 8+ years of experience in backend engineering and Java development.
• 5+ years of experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• 5+ years working with event-based architectures, API design, and integration patterns.
• 5+ years of experience in Agile product environments and technical consultancy.
• You possess strong expertise in coding, testing, and debugging complex backend systems.
• You bring experience in leading development teams and mentoring other engineers.
• You are fluent in Dutch at level C2.

Nice to Haves

• Practical experience with CQRS.
• 3+ years of experience with CI/CD, monitoring, and operational backend support.
• 3+ years of experience with the Atlassian Suite including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
• Interest in or experience with Go.
• Previous experience working in a digital media or high-traffic product environment.
