Ontwikkel producten en processen van nul en breng ze daarna op schaal. Van haalbaarheids- en ontwikkelingsstudies op labschaal tot een proces dat overeind blijft in volle productie.

Waar het werk gebeurt
R&D in Life Sciences loopt van de eerste studie tot de eerste volledige productierun.
- Haalbaarheids- en ontwikkelingsstudies
Je ontwerpt de studie, voert ze uit en interpreteert ze. De vraag is of het überhaupt kan werken, en onder welke voorwaarden.
- Scale-up
Van labschaal naar pilootschaal naar productie. Een mislukte scale-up kost veel geld, dus de wetenschap moet de schaalsprong overleven.
- Upstream en downstream processing
Kennis van USP en DSP komt in de meeste van deze rollen terug, minstens als een stevige plus.

- Wat is het verschil tussen R&D en MSAT?
R&D ontwikkelt het proces van nul. MSAT schaalt het op voor industriële productie en blijft het troubleshooten en optimaliseren, als de technische brug die dichter bij de productie staat.
- Heb ik een doctoraat nodig?
Niet voor R&D Scientist, daar is een master genoeg. MSAT is typisch een doctoraat plus ongeveer drie jaar, en een afgerond doctoraat zonder industrie-ervaring telt mee als onderzoekservaring.
- Is Engels voldoende?
Vaak wel, afhankelijk van de klant. Deze teams zijn dikwijls internationaal, dus Nederlands is niet altijd vereist.
- Is dit shiftwerk?
Nee. R&D is dagwerk, al is vroeg beginnen gebruikelijk. Het werk gebeurt altijd op site.
- Uit welke achtergrond komen deze mensen?
Vaak een master biomedische wetenschappen, maar chemie, bio-ingenieurswetenschappen en farmaceutische wetenschappen leiden er even goed naartoe.
