What is a consultant?

A consultant works through a consultancy firm on projects at other organisations. The meaning varies by sector: in our case it is not boardroom advice, but specialists who work inside the client’s team.

What does a consultant do?

Always the same role, just a different field. A validation engineer, a site supervisor or a data engineer brings expertise the client does not have in house.

What is consultancy?

Consultancy is the model behind it: you move between projects and environments, while your contract, salary and support stay in one place.

How do you become a consultant?

No fixed route. You join with the expertise you already have, and move into projects that match it.

Projects last from six months to several years, always with a long-term commitment from us.

FAQs

Why choose consulting over a direct hire role?

It offers variety, flexibility and long-term support across changing goals.

Is consultancy stable?

All of our positions come with a permanent contract. Most are full time, though we also arrange part-time assignments.

Do I choose my projects?

Absolutely. We present only those projects that match your expectations. You choose what works for you.

What do you need to study to become a consultant?

There is no single degree for it. What counts is your subject knowledge: a bachelor or master in your field, and experience that fits the project. Some roles require a specific certificate, in others practical experience weighs more heavily.

What does a consultant earn?

That depends on your field, your experience and the project. We discuss your salary openly during the interview, together with the rest of the package, so you know where you stand before you decide.

What happens when my project ends?

Your contract continues. Your Talent Manager looks for a next assignment together with you, and that conversation starts well before your current project finishes.

Can I work as a freelance consultant?

Yes. A part of our consultants work as self-employed professionals. Which arrangement is possible depends on the project and on the client, so we discuss that at the start.

Can I grow within Pauwels Consulting?

Definitely. You can take on new projects, explore new industries, lead teams or move to a different path altogether.

How do consultants stay connected and keep learning?

You’re part of a consultant community where we learn from each other, whether you work in a team or independently at a client. Your Talent Manager stays in close contact throughout.
