Feasibility and development studies

You design the study, run it and interpret it. The question is whether it can work at all, and under which conditions.

Scale-up

Lab scale to pilot scale to production. A scale-up that fails is expensive, so the science has to survive the change in scale.

Upstream and downstream processing

Knowledge of USP and DSP runs through most of these roles, at least as a strong plus.

Honest answers to the questions scientists really ask.

What is the difference between R&D and MSAT?

R&D develops the process from scratch. MSAT scales it up for industrial production and keeps troubleshooting and optimising it, sitting as the technical bridge closer to manufacturing.

Do I need a PhD?

Not for R&D Scientist, where a master is enough. MSAT is typically a PhD plus around three years, and a finished PhD without industry experience counts as research experience.

Is English enough?

Often yes, depending on the client. These teams are frequently international, so Dutch is not always required.

Is this shift work?

No. R&D is day work, although starting early is common. The work is always on site.

Which background do people come from?

Often a master in biomedical sciences, but chemistry, bio-engineering and pharmaceutical sciences all lead here just as well.
