On June 20, 2017, at the Ghent city hall, Pauwels Consulting was presented as the proud title sponsor of the Ghent marathon 2017. The new sports event, to be held on the 28th of October, will now officially be known as the “Pauwels Consulting Ghent marathon“.
Together with Resul Tapmaz, alderman of Sports in Ghent, and Stefaan Engels, organiser of the Ghent marathon, Bert Pauwels, founder and managing director of Pauwels Consulting, was also present. We asked Bert to share the story behind this sponsoring.
Bert: Thank you. It is special indeed and I am proud of it as well (laughter). This year, the Ghent marathon will be organised by Stefaan Engels and his team for the first time. I know Stefaan to be a “marathon man”, sportsman, sports coach and unofficial sports ambassador of Ghent. When I heard that he wanted to organise a marathon in Ghent, I did not hesitate one single minute.
Bert: This choice is based on a variety of reasons. First and foremost, I love sports and running in particular. For me, sports is the ideal release to relax and to recharge my batteries after a busy day or week at work. I am always filled with energy and full of ideas after a good run. As you would have guessed, I did indeed participate in a number of marathons.
By sponsoring this marathon, I hope to encourage as many people as possible to start running. So, dear family, friends, colleagues and other enthusiasts: you are forewarned! In the coming months, I will approach you with the question to join the run. It does not need to be the full marathon. It is also possible to run 5, 10 or 21 kilometres. Children could run 1 or 2.5 kilometres.
Bert: Absolutely! This is also one of the reasons why I fully back this event. I love to enjoy sports with my family, but it is often not easy to start a long run or participate in a marathon together. This is why on the 28th of October, we will take a different approach.
We provide two runs for children and sufficient entertainment and childcare to ensure that parents can run together. As such, the event is fun for the parents as well as for the children.
Bert: Indeed. The marathon and other runs will not take place in the city centre; they will take place along the Ghent green belt to ensure variation of pleasure.
We also strive to make this event the ‘greenest’ marathon. Jointly with the Ivago employees, we will ensure that it is almost impossible not to see the waste bins. It will simply not be possible to throw papers in public space. Ghent is much to lovely to act as such!
Bert: Certainly! Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Participating in a marathon or any other run involves a step-by-step preparation. So, take the time to prepare yourself and try to enjoy it. The more you run, the more you will enjoy it. However, I would also like to warn you: running is addictive. So, you better know what you are getting into (laughter.)
And of course… Are you an engineering, life sciences or IT professional or student and in search of an interesting job? Please feel free to approach me during the run or have a look at our current job openings. We are always looking for smart and sporty people!
